The100DayProject

The100DayProject starts in little over a week, and though I have given teasers here and there on social media sites.  It seemed appropriate to take some time to really expound upon the general idea and how, in the end, I want to help the FOSS game development community at large.

As of April 3rd I will begin working toward  making  medium to high class assets for the Wayfinder hybrid game system and its extended universe. These assets will include Characters,Ships,Flora, and Fauna with the goal of launching the game at the end of that 100 days. Given the very “Visual Arts” vibe of the100dayproject I will be submitting renders of my work for those that follow me on Instagram/Facebook, and Twitter. The programing side of the project will, of course, be going on in parallel, but will be regulated to my usual posts here or on the main Vague Entertainment site. You can find out more about Wayfinder in the coming days.

So how will this help the FOSS gaming community?

Well Wayfinder will indeed be an Open Source and Community Funded gaming system. It will use our in-house back-end called OpenSeed for various networking features and baring any technical issues will see the first public preview as a 3rd party accessible service around the time of Wayfinder’s launch. A run down of all of the OpenSeed services and how to use them is currently in the works but as the API isn’t completely settled. I wanted to wait a little longer before getting anyone’s hopes up.

In addition, at the end of the 100 days and on into the foreseeable future,  I will be reaching out to other developers in the Open Source Gaming community (super tux kart, Xonotic, Warsow, etc.) to offer my services as an artist in hopes to raise the bar across the board in these games. This of course is not an insult to the current art, but as the world expects more, we should be delivering it. Whether we create a new game product, or advance the look of the current offerings isn’t all that important, but that it happens is paramount.

As always Vague Entertainment is community funded and as such things like Wayfinder,OpenSeed,CafeSync, etc. will only be able to continue if we can keep the servers running and food in my belly. So consider dropping a dollar a month on Patreon or Librepay, and if you can’t support VE monetarily spread the word and together we can make something great.
